AANA Journal Peer Review Policy
Submitted articles undergo blind review by members of the AANA Journal reviewer corps. A double-blind process is used for objectivity. If accepted for publication, the manuscript will be edited using the AMA Manual of Style to improve presentation and clarity without altering the meaning of the text. In most cases, edited copy will be submitted to authors for final approval as a PDF received by email. Authors are responsible for all statements made in their work including changes made by the copy editor.
Please be advised that the AANA Journal is now using the EQUATOR network (Enhancing the Quality and Transparency Of Health Research) reporting guidelines to evaluate manuscripts. All of the reviewers will be using the EQUATOR guidelines for review of submissions.
Ethics Policy
The Journal takes seriously any scholarly forms of misconduct. For any instances of plagiarism or other forms of misconduct, the journal will initiate steps following the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) guidelines on retractions and misconduct. For unintended errors that do not affect the results or conclusions of an article, a formal correction notice will be issued, using ICMJE guidance.
AI Policy
The AANA Journal adheres to the current AI guidelines of Science collection of journals. Text generated by ChatGPT (or any other AI tools) cannot be used in the work, thus an AI program cannot be an author or co-author. In some cases, AI-generated images (or other multimedia) may be used only with permission from the AANA J editors. For details on use of image or multimedia, kindly refer to Science’s AI policy. A violation of these policies will constitute scientific misconduct no different from altered images or plagiarism of existing works.
Authors who use AI-assisted technologies should provide a detailed account of the manner of use in the cover letter and in the acknowledgments section of the manuscript. Detailed information of AI used as part of the research methodology should be provided in the methods section. Authors accept full responsibility for their manuscript’s authorship, as well as factual and citation accuracy. The AANA Journal will continue its close monitoring of any new developments in this area and will review (and update) these policies as industry standards on ethical use of AI evolves. AMA Statement on the Reporting of Race and Ethnicity in Medical Journals
The AANA Journal follows the AMA Manual of Style 11th edition on the reporting of race and ethnicity. The Journal recommends all authors use Chapter 11 (section 11.12) for the most accurate language and terminology.
