Nurses on Boards Coalition Celebrates Decade of Impact with Free Microlearning

June 12, 2024

2024 marks the Decade of Impact celebration for the Nurses on Boards Coalition (NOBC). The American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA) is a founding member of NOBC, which began in 2014 in response to the landmark 2010 Institute of Medicine (IOM) report, “The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health.” The report recommended increasing the number of nurse leaders in pivotal decision-making roles on boards and commissions that work to improve the health of everyone in America.

Jana Bailey, APRN, CRNA, who is AANA’s representative to the NOBC Board of Directors, created her Doctor of Nursing Practice project intervention, “Nurses on Boards Preparation Microlearning Program for CRNAs” to celebrate a decade of meaningful outcomes achieved through AANA’s partnership with NOBC. The microlearning program is free and has been prior approved by AANA for .75 Class A CE credit.

“CRNAs are poised to serve on boards, not just healthcare boards, but any board where we have a passion or interest,” Bailey said. “Most of us can benefit from the latest expert advice about serving on boards, picking the right board, how to get there, and how you can make a difference just by being on the board. This program provides the crucial Nurses on Boards Preparation content, in short video snippets to let CRNAs quickly gain needed information for charting their path to board service now or later.”

NOBC’s mission, according to its website, “is to improve the health of communities through the service of nurses on boards and other bodies. NOBC is committed to increasing nurses’ presence and influence on corporate, health-related, and other boards, panels, and commissions.”

Through NOBC’s work, more than 10,000 nurse leaders have joined boards, bringing their unique perspective and skillset to various groups. Nurses are members of one of the most trusted professions, according to Gallup.
