August 24, 2022 Rosemont, Ill. (AANA) – Nine members of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA) have been selected to join the 2022 Class of Fellows of the American Academy of Nursing. These Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) are among the largest cohort to date to be inducted into the American Academy of Nursing, with 250 nurse leaders recognized for their significant contributions to health and healthcare. Susan McMullan, PhD, CRNA, of the University of Alabama at Birmingham; Bryan Wilbanks, PhD, DNP, CRNA, FAANA, of the University of Alabama at Birmingham; Richard Fidler, PhD, MBA, CRNA, NP, CHSE, of San Francisco VA Healthcare System; Laura Bonanno, PhD, DNP, CRNA, of Louisiana State University Health New Orleans; Heather King, PhD, CRNA, of Uniformed Services University; Maribeth Massie, PhD, MS, CRNA, FAANA, of Columbia University; Sharon Pearce, DNP, CRNA, FAANA, of Sharon Pearce Anesthesia, Speaking & Consulting; Sonya Moore, DNP, CRNA, FAANA, of Case Western Reserve University; and John O’Donnell, DrPh, RN, CRNA, CHSE, FSSH, FAANA, of the University of Pittsburgh, will be inducted at the Academy’s annual Health Policy Conference, October 27-29, 2022 in Washington, D.C. Among the CRNAs selected for induction in 2022 are a former AANA president, Sharon Pearce, and two former AANA board members, Maribeth Massie and Sonya Moore. “Having a record number of CRNAs selected as fellows by the American Academy of Nursing is an incredible honor and a testament to their work and accomplishments,” said AANA president Angela Mund, DNP, CRNA. “I’m thrilled to see so many AANA members given this recognition and opportunity.” A record number of applications, representing a 30% increase from 2021, were reviewed by the Academy’s Fellow Selection Committee as part of a competitive and rigorous application process. The 2022 Fellows were selected based on their contributions to advancing the public’s health. Induction into the Academy is a significant milestone in which past and current accomplishments are honored by their colleagues within and outside the profession.
