It is always difficult saying goodbye to someone we love and cherish. Family and friends must say goodbye to Robert “Bob” Lynn Swymer of Treasure Island, Florida, who passed away after a brief illness at the age of 77, on May 30, 2024 at Largo Medical Center. He was born on July 2, 1946 in Tampa, Florida, the son of Robert Norman Swymer and Deloris Frances (Pearson) Swymer.
Robert graduated from Izmir American High School, Izmir, Turkey, where he first became interested in the practice of anesthesia. After graduation, he enlisted and served with the US Army from 1966-1969. He served during the Vietnam War as a Combat Medic and Operating Room Specialist in the 18th Surg Hospital – Vietnam. Bob was a loyal member of the VFW-Florida and the American Legion, Treasure Island.
Robert attended USF and graduated from St Petersburg College School of Nursing. In 1980, he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Anesthesia for Nurses. His career as a CRNA spanned more than thirty years.
Bob was an active member of Florida Association of Nurse Anesthesiology, the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology, Florida Nurses Association and the American Nurses Association. He was also a member of Indian Rocks Baptist Church, Largo, Florida.
Robert was the much-loved husband and best friend of Sunday Ann (Stickles) Swymer for fifty years. He was known for his wit and his knowledge of trivia. He was an avid lover of music and loved reading medical journals.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his younger sister, Kathy Sue Swymer.
In addition to his wife, Sunday (Stickles) Swymer, survivors include his sister, Frances Elaine (Swymer) Darling and her husband Harry of Dade City, Florida, and brothers in law, Michael Lee Stickles and John Scott Stickles and his wife Sheri of Tampa. He was uncle to nephew, Christopher David Hayter, and his wife Debra and nieces: Kathy Elaine Cozart and her husband Rodney of Franklinton, North Carolina and April Lee Stickles of Tampa.
