September 3, 2024 Matthew Asher Rohlfs, CRNA, 47, entered into Heaven on August 10, 2023, at Henry Ford Allegiance Health in Jackson, Michigan, surrounded by his family. Matt was born October 7, 1975, in Aurora, Illinois, son of Edward E. Rohlfs and Janet E. (Fryar) Rohlfs. On July 26, 2003, he married Janelle L. Gebeau in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Janelle (Gebeau) Rohlfs; four children, Brandi Rohlfs (Brian), Lucas Rohlfs, Amelia Rohlfs, and Jillian Rohlfs; his parents, Edward and Janet Rohlfs; his older sister, Melissa Rohlfs-Doherty (Jim), and younger brother Peter Rohlfs (Clare), several nieces and nephews, and many cherished friends. Matt is preceded in death by his grandparents Ben and Emma (McCoy) Fryar, and Don and Dorothy (Ramsey) Rohlfs, Uncle Bennie Fryar. Matt graduated from University of Detroit Mercy as a CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist), MS, and upon completion of his degree began working at Henry Ford Allegiance Health (while it was still Foote Hospital). For the last three years, he also worked as the lead CRNA for central and west Michigan for Ambulatory Anesthesia Solutions. Matt worked full time until his hospitalization. He is the author of “Chicks and Wine,” a member of Michigan Association of Nurse Anesthetists (MANA), where he served on the State Reimbursement Committee beginning in 2020, and an attendee of Jackson Free Methodist Church. He served abroad both in Guatemala and the Philippines on medical mission trips and hosted more than one charitable event to give back to his community and profession. He mentored many students, both high school and college and encouraged them to follow their passions… or join his profession. Matt’s most favorite thing to do was spend time with his family. He was an avid hunter and lover of the outdoors, beautiful sunsets and thunderstorms. He loved cooking for family and friends, crafting cocktails or opening a good bottle of vino. Matt believed in living a good life and did so by leading by example at work, loving his family unconditionally, working hard and playing harder. He was always down to try new adventures, taking the road least traveled, and doing the right thing without seeking reward. Many remember Matt for his sense of humor, competitive streak, and support of THE Ohio State Buckeyes. He was a source of comfort in times of difficulty due to his calm composure, protector of those he loved most, and fond of using his expansive vocabulary and signature quotes. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made in his honor to Operation Care Abroad (the organization he traveled to the Philippines with) or to the Meal Train organized for his family. For contributions to Operation Care Abroad, please send the checks directly to Operation Care Abroad, 25830 Strathaven, Novi, MI 48374 and write in the memo line “In memory of Matt Rohlfs.” This obituary was originally published on TributeArchive.com.
