Maria Lourdes “Mimi” Wilson, CRNA, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, and dedicated nurse, passed away on August 23, 2024 in her hometown of Chicago. Born May 20, 1994 to Thomas and the late Zenona Carter, Mimi’s life was filled with love and compassion for those around her.
Mimi grew up in Chicago alongside her identical twin sister, Gigi. From an early age, it was clear that their bond was unbreakable.
Mimi attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel Academy for elementary school, where she formed lifelong friendships that would shape her life. Her academic journey continued at Saint Ignatius College Prep, where she excelled both academically and athletically. She displayed remarkable talent as a member of the swim team and water polo player while also maintaining exceptional grades.
After high school graduation, Mimi pursued her passion for nursing by attending the University of Missouri, where she met the love of her life, Micheal Wilson. From an early age, it was clear that Mimi possessed a nurturing spirit and deep sense of empathy. It was no surprise to anyone when she chose a career in nursing. After graduating from the University of Missouri in 2015, she began her nursing career at Northwestern Memorial Hospital on the cardiac surgical floor — an environment where she thrived due to her unwavering dedication and compassion towards others. Her passion for helping others also led her to pursue work as a fertility nurse — a role that brought immense joy and friendship into her life as she played an integral part in helping families grow.
Despite finding fulfillment in the office setting, Mimi realized that her heart belonged in the hospital walls. She made the decision to return to the cardiac intensive care unit with aspirations of becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). Her determination paid off when she was accepted into Rosalind Franklin University’s Doctorate of Nurse Anesthesia program — a significant milestone that marked the realization of one of her lifelong dreams.
Throughout her life, Mimi remained deeply connected to her family — especially her twin sister, Gigi. They shared an unbreakable bond that was understood by few, but admired by many.
The impact Mimi left behind will forever be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to have known or been cared for by her. The loss is immeasurable, but so is the gratitude for having such an amazing person grace our lives.
