July 10, 2023 In the presence of a few of the people she loved, Janice G. Drake, CRNA, passed away on June 6, 2023. During the process of finalizing her estate plans, she had the opportunity to spend nearly a month with her son, Brian. Over the course of thirty-plus years, she provided excellent patient care as a nurse anesthetist as part of her quest to live a life serving others. Later, she was able to demonstrate this caring nature while partnering with her beloved canine Cara Christie as part of the Hand-in-Paw pet therapy team where they were able to provide hope and encouragement to many people. As a result of her commitment to serving others, she established two endowments that assist two organizations that directly assist many people in need: The Janice G. Drake Endowment for Veterinarian Services to assist The Seeing Eye®, and the Janice G. Drake Endowment for Humanitarian Service to assist the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology. In lieu of flowers, Janice wanted donations sent to either of these two causes. She stated in her own words, “I lived for others, always giving. I never stopped giving, I just ran out of time. A life well lived is a precious gift.” The celebration of Janice G. Drake’s life and legacy took place on Friday, June 16, 2023. This obituary was originally published on AL.com.
