December 10, 2024 The American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA) is proud to announce that former AANA president Jackie Rowles, DNP, MBA, MA, CRNA, ANP-BC, NSPM-C, FNAP, FAANA, FAAN, was honored with the “Visionary of Medical Education Award” at Concierge Health International’s inaugural Illuminate Life Gala on December 3, 2024. This recognition highlights Rowles’s remarkable work with the global nurse anesthesia charity she founded, Our Hearts Your Hands, Inc (OHYH). Established in 2016 by Rowles and four other Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) OHYH is committed to bridging the gap in global anesthesia manpower through the provision of scholarships to educate nurse anesthetists in low- and middle-income countries. The organization also fundraises for medical equipment to support safe anesthesia practice. Since 2017, OHYH has awarded 21 scholarships to support nurse anesthesia education in nine African countries. Outside of her role as founder and president of OHYH, Rowles has been active on the international level since 2010. She currently serves as the vice-chair of the Content Committee for the United Nations Global Surgery Learning Hub, which provides free online educational content for surgeons, anesthesia providers, perioperative nurses, and other providers. Additionally, Rowles is serving her sixth term as the president of the International Federation of Nurse Anesthetists (IFNA) and was recently named co-chair of the International Council of Nurses Advanced Practice Nursing Network’s Health Policy Committee.
