AANA Applauds CRNA Desirée Chappell’s Appointment to the APSF’s Board of Directors

September 17, 2024

The American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA) congratulates Desirée Chappell, MSNA, CRNA, FAANA, for her appointment to the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation (APSF) Board of Directors. Chappell has been an AANA member since 2005.

The APSF was formed in 1985 and serves a pivotal role in continually improving the safety of patients during anesthesia care through safety research and education, patient safety initiatives, and a national and international exchange of information and ideas.

The 14-member board functions as an advocate for patient safety and anesthesiology excellence. This commitment is reflected in the board’s continuous efforts in identifying safety initiatives and recommending ways to implement them.

Bringing over 15 years of CRNA experience to the APSF, Chappell will serve as a board member alongside former AANA president Dru Riddle, PhD, DNP, CRNA, FAAN, and Joshua Lea, DNP, MBA, CRNA. Lynn Reede, DNP, MBA, CRNA, FNAP, is also a member of the APSF’s Executive Committee. In addition to her duties as a board member, Chappell is also a part of the APSF’s Patient Safety Priorities Advisory Group, Infectious Diseases Committee.

Outside of her roles in the APSF, Chappell is the vice president of Clinical Quality for NorthStar Anesthesia, where she also practices clinically. In addition, she is the co-editor in chief for TopMedTalk, a leading global podcast in Perioperative Medicine and Anesthesia. She is passionate about intraoperative hypotension and hemodynamics and has had multiple publications this year on the topic, one of which through the APSF. Two of her papers were co-authored by other CRNAs, a testament to Chappell’s dedication to sponsoring and mentoring her fellow nurse anesthesiologists.
