Program Director of the Year Award

2023 Program Director of the Year Award

Lisa J. Thiemann, PhD, CRNA, FNAP, FAANA

The Program Director of the Year Award, established in 1991, is presented to a CRNA who has made a significant contribution to the educational process of student nurse anesthetists. The award recognizes the commitment of individuals to the profession of nurse anesthesia and the advancement of educational standards that further the art and science of anesthesiology and result in high quality patient care.

According to her nomination, Lisa is the heart of the Nurse Anesthesia Educational Program at Marquette University in Milwaukee and has been instrumental and a catalyst to expanding nurse anesthesia higher education in the state of Wisconsin since assuming the role of its inaugural Program Director in 2017.

In this role, her passions for educating, leading, and serving others have been crystallized through her strategic oversight in the development and implementation of the program. For example, Lisa was instrumental in developing relationships with healthcare partners in and around the Milwaukee area and within the state of Wisconsin to secure clinical affiliations for nurse anesthesia students, growing the program from 6 sites to 21.

Thiemann has been a mentor and impactful role model both to students, faculty, and other administrators alike for over 20 years. She has been especially supportive of the new faculty. Her guidance, encouragement, and support have been instrumental in the development and continued growth of new and seasoned faulty members.

For these reasons and many more, we are honored to present the 2023 Program Director of the Year award to Lisa Joan Thiemann.
