The mission of the AANA Foundation is to advance the science of anesthesia through education and research. One of the goals of the AANA Foundation is to support new and seasoned investigators in nurse anesthesia through grants. Programs are designed to develop researchers in nurse anesthesia. Only AANA member CRNAs/nurse anesthesiologists (clinical or research) are appropriate for application.
The applicant must be an AANA member who will use the funds for the project, and must discuss the research’s relevance to the mission of the AANA Foundation. The AANA Foundation sets a broad research agenda that includes the following areas for general grants:
March 31, June 30, September 30, December 31
Funding for dedicated research grants includes wellness, pain management, or peer assistance/substance use disorder (Art Zwerling Research Fund), Veterans Affairs, and Office-Based anesthesia. Plus, the Steve Mund Research Grant is in memory of Steve Mund, DNP, CRNA, FACHE, CENP; the study topic must relate to veterans’ mental health including PTSD and/or suicide. In addition, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are priorities of the AANA Foundation. The Foundation solicits innovative and impactful research proposals that further the goals of gaining knowledge and fostering DEI values within the anesthesia community. Application criteria are the same regardless of type of research grant.
A budget must be supplied (an estimate will suffice if a final version is not feasible.) NOTE: The Foundation’s limited funds are based on contributions. As a result, our revised policy is to not fund travel, tuition or other educational expenses which in turn enables us to provide more evidence-based support. The Foundation will reimburse up to 15% indirect costs with proper documentation.
The funding ceiling is inclusive of the indirect costs. According to program policy, the primary researcher’s salary and/or benefits will not be funded. Preference will be given to new programs of research. One application per team will be reviewed.
Award recipients MUST provide IRB/IACUC approval or exemption documentation (or attestation that IRB is not applicable) within 12 months of award notification if it is not included with the online application. We will notify all applicants of award status about within three months after the application’s submission deadline. Your application must include a statement about your current status regarding IRB/IACUC approval or exemption.
Prior to filling out the online application the applicant must:
Name all uploaded attachments for your application with your personal information as follows: LastName_FirstName_DescriptiveFileName
We recommend using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for best results when completing your application. You may experience technical difficulties if you use other browsers.
